Aquaponics and Greenhouse Intro Course

Relay Education in partnership with Lethbridge College are excited to host a two week course on aquaponics and agriculture.
The Aquaponics and Greenhouse Intro Course is a two week program with self-led online training in aquaponics design and plant physiology followed by one week of hands-on experience, learning greenhouse and aquaponic skills at Lethbridge College.

This program is being offered as part of the Green Skills Academy, which is a program run by Relay Education. The Green Skills Academy offers career training in solar installation, sustainable agriculture, geographic information systems mapping, and wind energy operations.
How it works
- Free to participate
- Two week course (one week self-led online learning and one week in-person training at Lethbridge College)
- 70 hours of instruction
- Travel and accommodations will be covered for participants.
Course Requirements
- Fluency in English required
- Comfortable with technology and self-led online learning
- Willing to travel for second week of training to Lethbridge, Alberta
- Passion for growing food and desire to work professionally in greenhouses and/or aquaponics systems
- Able to commit to the full course length and hours
Who the course is for
Everyone is welcome to apply. Priority will be given to individuals who are part of underserved and underrepresented communities, specifically Black, Indigenous, People of Colour, newcomers, Women and LGBTQ2+ individuals.
Participants must be:
- 18 years or older
- Canadian Citizen, Permanent Resident, or have Refugee Status
Course Content
Week One from March 11-15, 2024 is self-led online training (aquaponics/greenhouse).
Topics Covered:
- Aquaponics Design
- Fish Production
- Plant Physiology
- Integrated Pest Management
Week Two from March 18 to 22, 2024 is hands-on instruction at Lethbridge College.
Topics covered:
- Fish raising skills: handling, feeding, maintenance, water quality
- Greenhouse skills: pruning, pest management, germination, environmental control, food safety
- Tours of local greenhouse/hydroponic facilities
